One Year On: Marking The USAID Stop-Work Order

Community, Commitment, and What Comes Next

One year ago, the USAID stop-work order landed with a cataclysmic force that reshaped our lives, careers, and communities across the globe. For many of us, it was sudden and disorienting, an abrupt change to work that was never just a job.

In those early days, OneAID began as a small effort to sort through the noise: the rumors, the uncertainty, the fear and confusion around what was happening. What started as a place to share trusted information and support one another has grown into something far larger – a global community of people affected by the disruption of U.S. foreign assistance, bound not by titles or institutions, but by shared experience and purpose.

The labels of the old world, roles, agencies, organizations, contracts, no longer hold the meaning they once did. What endures is a shared commitment to the work itself: bettering the lives of millions, and tackling some of the most complex humanitarian, health, and development challenges of our time. That commitment continues to unite us, even as the landscape around us has shifted.

Over the past year, we have grieved losses, navigated uncertainty, supported one another through transition, and found new ways to stay connected to the values that brought us to this work in the first place. We have learned, adapted, and persisted. We may even have started in new fields of work or moved to new countries and communities, but we still continue, together.

To honor who we are as a community, what we have been through, and the work we still carry forward, OneAID is hosting two events in the Washington, DC region. We hope you will join us in marking this moment, not only in reflection, but in action and in shared laughter.
