Building OneAID: A Community for the Future of Foreign Assistance
How a volunteer-driven community rose from crisis to protect and sustain U.S. foreign assistance
Since February 2025, a dedicated group of USAID-affiliated women and volunteers have been working tirelessly to support the U.S. foreign assistance community in the wake of USAID’s dismantling. Out of that urgency, OneAID was born.
From the beginning, the mission has been twofold: to stand with the professionals who make U.S. foreign assistance possible and to ensure that the American people and their elected officials understand what is at stake when foreign aid is disrupted.
Building a Community of Action
In just six months, OneAID has grown into a community of more than 3,000 professionals and now leads a coalition of over a dozen partner organizations. Together, the network has:
-
Briefed elected officials on the importance of U.S. foreign assistance.
-
Developed and shared talking points, fact sheets, and analysis to inform public conversations.
-
Partnered with journalists to highlight the global consequences of foreign aid disruptions.
-
Provided wellness and career transition support for affected professionals.
-
Served as a trusted hub of fast-moving information for the community and beyond.
Why OneAID Matters Now
This progress has been possible only because of the commitment and expertise of volunteers—foreign assistance professionals who, even in crisis, are used to finding solutions where none seem possible. The need for OneAID remains urgent. Foreign assistance saves and transforms lives every day, and there is no future for this work without the people behind it.
How You Can Help
To continue supporting and sustaining the foreign assistance community, OneAID relies on collective generosity. Every donation directly supports:
-
Training on emotional and financial wellbeing and career transitions.
-
Social events where the community can gather and support one another.
-
Timely dissemination of resources and updates through the website, Signal channels, and social media.
-
Development of information products to educate the public about the value of U.S. foreign assistance.
-
Convenings of grassroots groups, organizations, and individuals to shape the future of the field.
Help sustain us for the future!
